What is a cut polish?
Cut polishing is a 2 step process which is used to remove surface scratches, light oxidation and swirl/haze marks left from environmental contaminants on your car’s clear coat. Firstly the paintwork is machine polished with a very fine cutting polish which will safely remove the paints imperfections and then a layer of wax is added for a depth of shine. A cut polish prolongs the life of the detailing and gets you much more bang for the buck.
Do you use environmentally friendly cleaning products? Do you use harmful chemicals?
We are committed to the health and safety of our employees, our clients, and our beautiful city. We use environmentally friendly, water soluble detailing products at every opportunity and are always seeking out new ways to leave the lightest possible footprint while doing an exceptional job for our customers.
What size of an imperfection counts as a paint chip?
We are able to touch up chips and imperfections of virtually any size. Having said that, the goal of a touch up is to be as inconspicuous as possible, and the larger the damage, the more difficult it is to hide the repair. If you are unsure if your vehicle’s damage can be fixed with a touch up, just send us a quick photo or come by the shop. With 22 years experience we know the best practice for any situation.
My car is beginning to rust, do you offer rust removal?
Rust is a tricky beast, but one we are always trying to tame. Rust repair is something that is done by appointment only, and after a consult we let you know if it will be possible to remove the rust and keep a recurrence at bay.
I have something that needs fixing outside of your standard services menu, how do I get a quote?
No problem at all. Just head over to our contact page and let us know some details about what you need. Calling us is the fastest way to get an answer, but if it is after hours or the weekend, use our contact form and submit a photo of the damage you need sorted out.
Do you use clear coat?
Yes we do. At Island Color we use clear coat whenever we do bumper repair and paint chip repair. This step is essential to help match up the paint as well as to protect the finished product.
Do you sand the bumpers when you do bumper repairs?
Yes we sand the bumpers down before we repair them. This helps to ensure the new paint has a surface it can adhere to, which in turn creates a better finished product as well as one that lasts.
Do you remove the bumper during repair?
No we don’t remove the bumper, however we do mask the car off thoroughly so there is no danger of overspray onto other areas of the vehicle.
Do you offer mobile service?
Yes, mobile service is available upon request at no extra charge within Victoria. All we need is an outlet to run our gear, and a driveway with some room to do the spraying. Parking lots of condo buildings do not have enough space between cars to safely paint, but you may have a loading zone we can use for the short period of time we will be working. If you are unsure if you are a candidate for on location paint services, just give us a call, we are happy to help you out.
